Time: 10pm - 5am

RICHARD DEVINE 2005:

Richard Devine is at the cutting edge of new edge of sound design and musical composition. During the past three years, Richard Devine has remixed top Warp artists like Aphex Twin and Mike Patton (Faith No More). He has released 4 full-length albums on Schematic, Warp, Asphodel, and Sublight records and has performed his own ear-tearing music mayhem worldwide. Based in Atlanta, Georgia he has done film score work for Touchstone Pictures (with John Hues & Kyle Cooper), Wieden & Kennedy, AKQA Inc., and has done sound mangling/programming for Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. He is currently doing sound design for Sony Play station PS3 (Infected) for Dawn of the Dead and recently completed all the sound design for the new xbox360. http://www.xbox360.com

In conjunction with TV and film work Richard also has done programming and sound design work with major audio companies. His work has been featured on new software and hardware titles from many innovative companies such as Native Instruments, Korg, Clavia Nord, Alesis, Ableton Live, Apple Computers, Openlabs, Universal Audio, Hartmann Neuron synthesizers, Stanton Magnetics DJ Company, and M-Audio Division.

“Musically he masterfully orchestrates a titanic array of rapidly moving information, cleverly channelling it into an organized stream of sound. There are seemingly endless layers of rhythms, spanning every notch of frequency, spiralling around one another like complex DNA strands hinged together in a grid-like lattice. Never competing, never repeating the same phrase. The result is amazement, awe. The human mind can only process so much information at one time. Devine knows this well, it is one of his sonic weapons. It is a lot like optic art, when the eyes are fed too much data and the overload produces a prismatic, entrancing effect. "Entrancing" is not the word you would think to apply towards music whose elements rarely repeat themselves, but the groove is there, like a strange, mechanical funk music, and everything else revolves around it. Like a million minuscule sounds, obediently marching to the cadence of a heavy step. The music is in the beat itself. It is "funk for robots", a broken and restructured music. Mathematically reconstructed with futuristic tools, conceived by a highly evolved mind. For this, Richard
Devine has become something of a hero to the overqualified working underclass, because he shows us a glimpse of a world where those with technological skills rule.” From Warp Bio. http://www.warp-net.com

"Richard Devine is generating the same kind of excitement that Slayer did in the early 1980’s" - Spex Magazine, Germany

Also playing on the night will be:

AI YAMAMOTO - based in Melbourne since 1999, Ai's music style varies from soft melodic and shimmering abstract melodies to dark explosive tones. Her main area of interest is the dramatic structure and flow of music. Gentle melodies with abstract texture bring atmospheric soundscape in her compositions. She has been working on industrial abstract hip hop music with Adam Gauci (Curse ov dialect) and abstract drone electronica with Lawrence English (Room40). She currently presents Tokyo to Thailand and Beyond Borders of SBS National Radio Australia. http://www.sbs.com.au/alchemy/index.php

ANUBIS COMPLEX - from the renowned WA electronica collective Graylands. Performing live his rich atmospheric productions & micro cosmic cadences in a truly unique manner. Fusing dark and meticulous soundscapes with crisp brooding patterns & breaks in a highly imaginative way. www.graylands.com

VIRIDIAN - you may remember from classic Melbourne parties like War of the Worlds, Hardware, Two Tribes and other raves in the early 90s. He’s taken a five-year absence from the music world to develop skills necessary to customize the cult computer application – Pure Data (the original version of Max/Msp, the infamous program used by Autechre and Richard Devine, of course). Viridian will be performing digitally live synthesis with all customized instruments and no vst or other commercially available synthesizers or effects.

REKA - Melbourne based producer & performer that has been gathering quite a reputation for his unique sounds. His unconventional performances and lack of borders mesh noise, country & techno with dark ambience in a way unlike all others

MALADROIT - Sydney’s legendary System Corrupt creates a whole new meaning for soundclash. Fusing post apocalyptic jungle riddims with the debris of popular culture to create an impressive arsenal of hybrid tracks to rip up any dancefloor. With both local & international releases on System Corrupt, Cortex, Bruchstellen, V/vm test and GPFS.

XIAN - The alter ego of Christian Bishop who harbors a huge love for colorful breakcore, dark drum & bass, gritty old school hip hop, crusty grindcore, and Lovecraftian folk law, as well as any music or sound corrupted with forbidden frequencies and harmonic means. With local & international releases on Black Lotus, System Corrupt, Worm, Omeko & Mekobira.

& DJ's:
DAVE PHAM - He is one of those new school DJz who has achieved because he is not afraid to push boundaries in his quest for musical perfection. He is committed and determined - all the hallmarks for a future superstar. Melbourne is known for its quality in techno and if anything, here is a guy who raises the bar.

ARSE 'n' ALL - With a steady high protein diet of hip hop, pop mash up & abstracted breakcore riddims you gotta love it! After recently plundering the best record stores through Europe and Japan, Arse'n'all will be playing straight up good stompin breakcore from the worlds best artists.

JANETTE HOWARD - The neo-folk industrial Dj, 1 part metal shavings, 2 parts Pop corruption muddled with corrupted jazz on ice. " DJ Janette Howard a sonic provocateur if there ever was one...tests the boundaries of DJ culture with some really out there stuff... As always, she shows why she's starting an internal revolution..."

The problem with people is stupidity, so why don't we take the safety labels off everything and let it work it out for itself.

I just found out that the acts I want to see at Juno Reactor don't start until 1am.

Do you know what time Richard Divine will be on? Any chance he will be on about midnight? I would really like to see him play!!!
